Google Calendar

Google Calendar allows users to create their own online calendar. The set up for these calendars are very straight forward allowing the used to repeat their daily activities instead of having to input data over and over again. Also the calendar can set up automatic alerts to any on the scheduled events. The calendar can be set up as private or public with the public setting able to be limited. This is a great tool for just about anyone. Since the calendar is online, it can be accessed anywhere. Also it allows groups of people to see each others schedules. This can be used to create working schedules for a large group so that everyone can participate during their free time. Another advantage to this program is that it can be integrated into other google based programs.

My Office on Facebook

MyOffice is a project management application that allows members create and manage projects. It also allows the interaction collabboration of project members. The application allows the user to create a new project or join projects already started. Once a project is started, there are numerous applications that the user can then activate.

ZOHO Project

This is much like other project management software. This program allows the user to create tasks, set deadlines, and track milestones. The calender allows all of these activities to be monitored as well as meetings to be attended. Also, files such as spreadsheets or charts can be uploaded and shared. This application can be very useful for many people.

Yugma

This seems like an incredibly amazing program. It allows the used to instantly share their desktop in real time. This means that whatever is on your computer can be viewed by everyone in your meeting at the same time. Basically this allows for online meetings that have the same resources and capabilities are regular meetings. Probably the most useful application of this program is the ablility to use a whiteboard and share it with everyone at the same time. Along with the online conferencing, the program allows the user to upload files and alots a specified amount of storage to each user to safe files and information to use at later times. All in all, this program is extremely useful and may end up being absolutely essential in all day to day interactions.

For my normal document writing, I will continue to use Microsoft Word. I have been using this program for many years, and I feel it is very easy to use. It is very convenient as well being that it is directly on my desktop.

Facebook

Facebook has a wide set of applications that you can use to keep in touch with friends. This is set up as pretty much strictly a social network. This is a place to find out what anyone is doing or has done recently socially. Their are a lot of useful applications that are available on the site, but you have to add them to be able to use them. Basically, you get out of facebook exactly what you want from it.

ning

ning is a website used to set up your own social network. This allows groups to create their own network the way that they want it. The networks are set up much like other networks with profiles on “My Page”. The site also allows for dicussions and comments to be created. The site is geared towards organized groups looking for an organized networking site.

LinkedIn

This is set up much like facebook. The difference here is that it seems to be used primarily for professional networking. You can find jobs, business opportunities, or coworkers. This website seems to be very useful to anyone looking for a job or trying to find out information about a job. This is a great website to start building a network.

pownce

This website allows you to send almost anything to your friends. These include messages, files, links, and events. Your friends can be imported from many different contact sets, and the messages or files can be sent to the entire group of one individual.

friendfeed

Basically this allows you to put all of your different applications all on one feed. Anytime to udpate or post almost anything, this websites records it on your feed. People can then scroll through your feed and go to anything that you have done. This is a great way to put all of your appications in one place.

For social networking, I will continue to use facebook. I have been using it for a very long time, and I like the way that it is set up. Also, most of my friends use facebook exclusively. I will however be using LinkedIn much more in the future. To me, this website looks like it is going to be incredibly useful for me when I end up looking for a job.

Webpage Creation and Social Network Services

Creating webpages, especially personal ones, has become much easier in the past couple of years. When the internet was relatively young, the only way to create a webpage was to use HTML code. For a simple webpage, the code could run one for almost forever. Not only was the code incredibly long, it was also very hard to understand. It took a good bit of practice and knowledge to create. Now, with only webpage tools, creation of webpages is much easier. The tools allow pretty much anyone to create their own wepage exactly how they want it. This has led to many people taking the leap and creating their own.

Social Networks have been around for some time, but these new online social networks are really amazing. They allow users to communicate with all of theirs friends in many different ways. With both MySpace and Facebook being so popular now, getting in touch with people is very easy. Social networks put all of your and your friends information right at your finger tips. Instead of having to call or write each person individually, you can go to a site and find exactly what is going on with them. This information can be updated everyday if possible. It takes communicating and interacting with people to a whole new level.

First Blog Post

March 1, 2008

The word “blog” comes from the term web log, and blogs are created by the user to communicate on the internet with many people.  This type of on-line communication has become extremely popular in the past couple years.  Most people used their personal blogs as basically online diaries.  Each new post is at the top, and all prior post are given in chronological order below.  This way, they can let everyone know what is going on with their lives every time they update their blog.  Blogs are a great way to communicate with a lot of people all at once, because they can simply check the blog.  Blogs basically focus on specific themes or issues depending on who is writing the blog, so if you want something specific you have to find the right blog.  All in all, blog are a wonderful way to get information out that you feel is important and worhwhile for others to know.
